Despite the high demand from the degree programme, I managed to complete the A+ section which am waiting for the other part of the course. Though, this help me too to do some little jobs on friends and my own computer or other electronics. I have started studying again for the first time since I was 16 and I am now 32, trying to get into studying again has been really hard but what is driving me is the outcome of what I can achieve and where I can go in my career in the future. After my first 2 assignments which I have completed and I got 100% for my first and 97% for my second, that has giving me so much confidence that I can succeed in all the work and effort I put into this course. I was recently having the most horrendous time with my PC at work, every time I switched between my business system, and my office 2000 system, my PC would just shutdown. This was happening maybe 20-30 times a day. I got in touch my IT dept, they told me try some things, which I did without success. They then sent out an engineer to look at my machine, there was also one other user in my work place who was having the same identical probem, after about an hour the engineer condemmed both machines, saying that the capacitors were leaking and this was causing the machines to crash. I started to think, how he came to this conclusion when he hadn't even opened the cases. I had a look at my event viewer, and discovered that was riddled with error messages that coincided with each time my machine went down. The error was an auto enrollment error, I then had a look at the other users event viewer and this had the same error messages. I notfied my IT dept, about what I had found, and they asked if I could do a screen print and send it to them, which I did and within 3 hours the situation on both machines was resolved, and there was no need to have the PCs replaced. Since I have been studying with skills train, I have gain a lot even beyond my own comprehension, the following are what I believed I have achieved so far--- During the last month I have passed my CCNA 1 semester exam with a mark of 92.7% and have been able to help one of my friends by determining the best cable types to install in a new house which is is building. I was able to help reduce his costs by informing him that for a household the would be no benifit in using shielded twisted pair cabling instead of CAT5 UTP. The most significant accomplishment for me was my new job. After a long wait, I have moved into the IT industry. I am now working as a Technical Sales Advisor. Prior to this I was working as a part-time cleaner! Having only started my A+ course in January, I am very happy with my progress. I have just submitted my TMA 23 and I think that the way in which the course material is provided is excellent, and the revision supplements really helped me in remembering what I had covered. The best part for me was having the knowledge to attempt to fix a broken laser printer which ive had lying around the house, OK it was only a bad paper jam, but because I was able to approach the problem with confidence. It was dealt with properly and is now working perfectly. I highly reccommend the comptia A+ course. Over the past few months I have been studying for this award in my spare time whilst taking on more commitments at work. This has made it difficult for me to find the time but after managing my time and studying in a way that enable me to find the time, I have completed my TMA's and in the past 10 months I have completed 30 of the assignments. I have managed to pass each one without having to re-submit. This has give me the confidence to take on new challenges in work as I am confident that it won't have an effect on my course. I am currently submitting around one assignment a week and feel as if I am making strong progress to completing my course. I have only done 3 TMA's but all have been above 80% which was a shock to me that I managed such good scores. I have fixed a friends laptop using some of the info I have learnt doing this course and I've stuck to it I've worked out a study format that works 100%. And my friends and family are proud at what I've achieved. I'm going to keep at it. I'm enjoying every moment of it. I was unable to do my TMA's or even any study for about 18 to 24 month and have only now got the change to get back into it this month. I can build computers, help staff/children with IT skills and etc, install hardware and software onto desktops/laptops, I can also encrypt laptops when staff bring them to myself or even telling them over the telephone step by step procedure and keeping a record of any IT equipment sent to any people either on a spreadsheet or on a word document. Studying is not my strong point, so after doing 5 tma's and not having one needing to be re-submitted, I feel it is a brilliant achievement for myself. Considering I hated studying at school and left with no qualifications. What reinforced this achievement was that I managed to format a brand new fresh hard drive in my mates laptop a couple of days ago. I feel I have achieved loads this past month because I have managed to get through the first section of the course even tho I was struck down with glandular feaver for 4 weeks, then lost my job and had to move home. I'm pleased that I had this course to be honest as it has kept me on an even keel and I have projected myself into my work instead of feeling sorry for myself.
